       PIONEERS SURRENDER TO THE ACES
(5/15/12)
(Game Report by Larry Lindmark)
Kyle Blahnik’s three hits and four RBIs led an Aces 15 hit attack as Red Wing cruised past the visiting Pine Island Pioneers 10-1.  Five other Aces had two hits apiece – Adam Thygesen two hits in two plate appearances before having to leave the game during the third inning due to a ground ball hitting him in the mouth; Steve Boldt with two doubles; Jimmy Bohmbach with a single, double and two RBI, Tyler Goering stroking a couple of singles, and Jordan Warren lacing two triples to right field.  The Aces career triple record holder, who now resides behind the PA at The Ath, thinks that two triples in one game is an Aces record.   Andy Gibart picked up his second win of the season by going five innings while giving up six hits.  Dustin LaRue completed the final four innings allowing no runs on three hits.  Shortstop Ryan Olson led the Pioneers with four singles.  Base-running miscues seemed to be the theme of the day.   Three times trailing runners forced a teammate in front of them off of a base resulting in an out.  Each team executed the play in the first inning and then the Aces repeated the same mistake in the fourth inning.  The local nine, now 3-0 on the young season, continue their 2012 schedule with a 7:30 p.m. game at the Dundas Dukes on Fri., May 18 and entertain the Cannon Falls Bears in a 2:00 p.m. contest on Sun., May 20
UPDATE - Official scorer rules Jordan Warren
with one triple and one double.

Saturday Night Storm Damages The Ath.
Grounds crew members were surprised Sunday morning when they arrived at The Athletic Field. Yes, they were expecting to find wet conditions from the rains the previous night but what they also found was a torn down batters-eye and an outfield windscreen that had been damaged by the winds. The windscreen was able to be fixed in time for the game but repair of the batters- eye will take time.

  Red Wing

The U.S. Military All-Star Baseball Team is coming to Red Wing on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 to take on the Aces. Red Wing is one of six stops in Minnesota during the teams nationwide 2012 Red, White and Blue Tour. Since 1990, armed forces personnel have represented their service with a philosophy of HUSTLE, THINK, WIN! They are the "Globetrotters" of baseball, the largest, fastest growing and most successful barnstorming team ever created, delivering competitive and exciting "must see" patriotic entertainment. The All-Stars have been enjoyed by millions. They have visited over 45 states and 8 countries while competing against some of the finest organizations in the world including the Boston Red Sox. They compete in 100 games annually at all levels while providing direct support to the State Department, Department of Defense and Recruiting. They make over 350 appearances each year including international Friendship Tours on behalf of Major Commands, Military Installations and Command Visits to benefit Veterans and Youth charities.

This historic “Red, White and Blue Tour" delivers an unique patriotic event designed to honor America. They conduct a choreographed pre-game that includes "Passing the Flag" and "Walk of Honor" ceremonies to celebrate American history in a moving tribute to those lost in the 9:11 tragedy. Their mission: “To Promote the Awareness of all Americans in Support of the Honorable Sacrifices our Armed Forces make”.

Aces Preview New Uniforms

The Red Wing Aces will be sporting new white uniforms for the 2012 season. Gone will be the sleeve-less look and a more traditionial short sleeve jersey was chosen. The single navy blue piping on the jersey and pants is similar to that of uniforms wore by the Aces in the 1970's. The red and navy blue sleeveless jerseys and grey pants will also be worn at times by the Aces in 2012. The caps will remain the the traditionial navy with red bill Aces caps worn in the past.
